Vaughan Johnson was part of the “Dome Patrol” for Jim Mora’s Saints from 1986 through 1993. Johnson, along with Sam Mills and Pat Swilling terrorized the NFC West as Mora’s Saints had one of the premier linebacking crews in the entire league.
The three linebackers went to a combined 14 Pro Bowls in their NFL careers( Johnson went to four). The trio came into the league in 1986, but Johnson and Mills came via the USFL.
Johnson played for the Jacksonville Bulls for two years under coach Lindy Infante. Jacksonville didn’t make the playoffs in their two-year existence, but the Bulls were the USFL’s most poplar team, averaging more than 44,000 fans for each game.
